As you will see, the microcast is still on hold (for the foreseeable future) but there is a little surprise: I am going to start an email newsletter!
I've mulled over the idea before but was hesitant about setting something up if there was no real purpose behind it. I've now found the focus I needed.
I said that I wanted 2018 to be the year I did something with my writing so I'm starting a new project that will hopefully become a book. I don't know how long it will take me or how long the work itself will end up but, for once, I'm determined to get it done.
The newsletter will be a behind the scenes look at what I'm doing but I will explain more in the first update which I'm aiming to send on 1st March.
If you want to help shape the project (or just be nosy) I'd love for you to sign up.
@colinwalker Subscribed. Will be interesting to see where you go with it all. I've also flirted with starting my newsletter again, but between Mb and RMO, I’m interneted out :). Good luck with it though!
@kaa Thanks. Glad to have you on board. I’m not 100% sure where it will end up but it’s going to be a fun (and possibly frustrating) process ?
@nitinkhanna This is just 10.13.4 beta 3 ?
@colinwalker what's this one called?
@colinwalker oh lol
I was considering using Drafts as an outliner and management app but I'm not sure it would be the best environment. Yes, I could fashion something useable thanks to scripting but it would not be ideal.
The release of Things 3.4 - with it's URL scheme and support built directly into the Drafts 5 beta - has got me thinking.
Still, I can't help but think that I'm only really considering it because of the Drafts connection rather than because I actually need it.
@colinwalker hah! You read Viticci’s article as well I see. Things is beautiful and fun to use. I figure, if an app can help me get 10% more done today, why not use it?
@jhull His and others. Having not really used task apps I just have trouble justifying it for something I may not end up keeping around.
@colinwalker All the talk about Things has be thinking about it too. I tend to just keep a list in reminders right now.
@colinwalker I’ve used paper task management for years now. Every digital system just doesn’t have the same heft in my brain as paper, plus I like the ability to write weekly ‘so what’ entries under my weekly tasks to contextualize in my brain how well the week went/fell apart.
@colinwalker Sounds interesting and am quite excited to follow along. Have subscribed.
@vincent Thanks Vincent ?
@hutaffe Thanks, should be interesting. I’m really looking forward to digging into it.
@colinwalker Good luck for your journey! I’m always interested to follow stories like this ☺️
That's exciting, Colin! I've subscribed.
Thanks Chris. Was that you using kill-the-newsletter.com?
Scratch that, just got yours.
@JohnPhilpin I must admit, since TinyLetter decided to go the captcha route it’s not been as nice but it’s still (for now) one of the simplest to use. Double check your junk folder just to make sure.
@JohnPhilpin Maybe try the direct link instead.
@colinwalker just last week I unsubscribed from 80% of the newsletters I was receiving - but just subscribed to yours! It didn’t seem a simple process .... and confirmation email still not come through - but interested to see what you are doing.
@colinwalker have you looked at substack … stowe boyd moved to it recently - so taking a look at that - not got strong thoughts either way yet.
@colinwalker i just tried the link you provided in here - different experience - last time having put in email and clicked submit - was asked for email again … this time that didn’t happen - and tiny letter just delivered their confirmation into my junk …. so we are all good.
@JohnPhilpin Ah, Cool. I’ll have to double check the embedded form ?
@JohnPhilpin Looks a little overkill to start with for what I need.
@colinwalker that could be true ... just sharing and will of course take a look at tinyletter - my usual world of mailchimp just seems to get more and more bloated as I go.
@colinwalker no junk confirmation ... will try again later.
