# I was having a weird issue with the Mail app where, when an email was received, I would get the notification sound and banner as expected and the unread badge appeared until the banner rose back up off screen. Once the banner had gone the unread badge disappeared and the notification no longer available.
I wondered if it was a glitch with the mail getting marked as read due to having previews showing when the phone was unlocked but the same thing happened when previews were set to never.
Then I remembered that I still had Edison Mail installed so wondered if this might be conflicting. Theoretically it shouldn't as nothing was being read and multiple clients can access IMAP and stay in sync.
I've uninstalled Edison Mail and haven't had the problem since.
Permission to fail
We hear it all the time: you have to give yourself permission to start because you'll never get anywhere until you do.
But you also need to give yourself permission to fail, to mess up, to cross it out and start again.
That freedom to be imperfect, doodle in the margins, rip out the page or - even better - to leave the ruined page in place, mistakes and all.
Today's mistake might be tomorrow's inspiration as even failure contains potential and possibility.
# I have further streamlined my home screen by relegating the Clock, Calendar and Weather apps to a folder - I don’t use any of them enough to really warrant a top level position. Apple Maps has been grouped with Google Maps in a new folder on page two so that a full row has been removed.
This is about as minimal as I can go without causing myself the inconvenience of too many extra swipes and taps.
@colinwalker Wow, that is super minimal. I'm way too much a clutterer to even attempt it. :)
@Bruce Page 2 has the same number of spaces occupied but with more folders. I don’t really have that much installed. And I just love the blank icon trick to shift things down the screen.
@colinwalker @Bruce I couldn’t stick with the blank icon/black background. It was like staring into a black hole whenever I turned it on. I’m back to something a bit more colourful now.
@stefp Owning a 13“ MBP I never see my desktop, so no reason to think about wallpapers :) (And if so, it would be unicolor for non-distraction) @colinwalker @Bruce
@kulturnation I don’t really care about wallpaper on laptops either. I keep switching around on my phone though. Depends on my mood.
@stefp Oh, had to check my iPhone: black background. Don’t think I would call it wallpaper :D
