Watching Jay's latest podcast – yes, watching – I didn't stop YouTube and it rolled over to this video from an artist called Venus Theory which essentially asks, with regards to making music:
what's the f**king point?
After an amount of discussion he quotes a friend as saying:
It's not about building this 'thing' to be remembered.
It's about living your life and enjoying it while you still have it.
Profound.
Music has been such a big part of my life, since I was about 8 years old and first heard Rapper's Delight by The Sugarhill Gang.
I make music for the same reason I listen to it, because it speaks to something inside of me. Making something of which I'm proud enough to share it with the world gives such a sense of satisfaction.
I heartily recommend the project that he talks about in the video (on YouTube here, the soundtrack is on Spotify and probably elsewhere) as it is such a poignant and emotional piece.
Oh, and if you don't listen to, watch or read Jay's podcast then you're missing out!
