I've thrown together a quick PHP version of Andy's My Status Tool that adds posts to a local CSV file, builds an RSS feed and each posts has it's own page. Items are then displayed in a reverse-chron timeline along with those from other subscribed feeds.

It's currently tied into the rest of the site (the posting box only shows if logged in) but I plan on making a standalone version soon.
The feed admin page saves the list of subscribed feeds to another CSV file and feeds can be deleted. If subscribed feeds have an image element this is used as the 'avatar'.
I currently limit the timeline to ten items per feed but am going to look at something like pagination rather than endless scrolling.
I'm also going to think about how to handle replies to other people's posts within the context of RSS and how relpies can be shown on each post's page.
