I think I'm there on adding the option for post titles to the packaged version of (b)log-In. When enabled, the extra field is displayed in the post form but is not compulsory – post titles can be used freely (or not) and the system automatically accounts for them.
This is currently only in the packaged version as I'm unsure if I'll ever use post titles here. The code bases were already different as I had removed references to the Journal and muse-letter so keeping them separate is not an issue.
The above screenshot is reverse-chron with post meta turned on, below is with post order set to ASC (chronological) which has post meta disabled automatically:
