That’s why I think charnel vision is a healthy thing. A world that desperately celebrates optimism and medicates pessimism is a world that is not truly willing to look at itself and contemplate the death and decay that must necessarily accompany life and growth.

Back at work today after two weeks off sick. I'm on leave between Christmas and New Year so this is just a day to try to catch up on what's been happening while I've been out.
I came back to almost 300 emails – less than I was expecting – but, in initial triage, only managed to dismiss 58 of them – also less than expected.
A couple of people who were working in my area through the 'project phase' have now either left the organisation or moved on to other projects and the recruitment for two people to join my 'team' (can you call it a team when it's just you?) is still off in an indeterminate future. The roles are supposed to be protected but the timeline around when they will be filled is uncertain.
As many will be away until the start of January, I imagine today will just be focused on getting things to a point where I know what needs doing.
