Christmas Films
It's the start of November and we've got enough Christmas films recorded such that my wife worked out we'd have to watch seven a day, that's right seven a day, to fit them all in before the 25th December.
What is it about them?
They're obviously "feel good" fodder but they're formulaic according to a few set patterns and mostly predictable with the occasional twist.
That's actually part of the joy, at least in our house. We pride ourselves on being able to work out the whole story, revising it with the details as we continue to watch.
Everything logical tells you that knowing how a story ends (and also how it gets there) would spoil it but they don't abide by logic. The communal act of working it out and then seeing it all transpire according to "the plan" is as equally feel good and comforting as the film's themselves. That they're all about Christmas is just the icing on the cake.
The familiarity is key; sometimes we don't want shocks or surprises, we just want to feel warm on the inside, to escape from the stress of the world and share these moments with those we love.
Christmas films are the perfect vehicle.
@colinwalker My wife prides herself on being able to work out Christmas movie endings within the first 20 minutes of the movie. Just the right time to be introduced to all the characters and to work out what will happen.
As much as I poke fun at her about Christmas movies, they are good to watch. Especially at this time of year!
@matthewlang So it's not just us then. That's a relief ?
@colinwalker I’m sure there are many more others just like us!

I resemble this remark… er, um, I mean I resent…. Oh heck, I wholeheartedly identify. It’s so bad that I’ve even got a tag on my website for Hallmark Christmas movies.
Syndicated copies to:
@matthewlang I think my DVR forgets all other programming and basically just records Hallmark in a couple of weeks
You might laugh at this. My wife's taking me to see Terminator (Dark Fate) tomorrow night. Not my first choice, but I'm sure it'll be fun to watch it with her. She also loved the Alien series.
@jpayne I might use this if there’s a Christmas movie I want to record without my wife knowing. “Oh yeah, it must the new AI they’ve installed to record related movies we might like.” ?
