Side effects for my current meds (Sertraline) are usually more intense for the first few weeks of a course while your body gets used to them.

  • headaches
  • drowsiness & yawning
  • dry mouth
  • diarrhoea
  • malaise
  • memory loss
  • night sweats
  • bad dreams

It's hard to say if the pills are actually causing any headaches, diarrhoea, malaise and memory loss. I get migraines, have IBS, am on the meds for depression, and the ADHD means my brain is often all over the place.

How do you tell?

I never really had any symptoms when I started taking them more than 18 months ago, except mild bruxism – clenching my jaw. More recently, however, I have had a lot of unsettling dreams, frequent night sweats, feeling persistently tired and yawning, and a dry mouth, or the sensation of having one. A dry mouth can also lead to soreness or altered taste; I have noticed that foods seem a lot more spicy than normal.

It's not uncommon to have ongoing issues but far less frequent that side effects should occur after being stable over a long period.

I think I'll have to go to the doctor to discuss it next week.
