Writing in response to Dave Winer's post about browsers hiding RSS feeds, Manton suggests:
When you click on an RSS feed, your browser should preview it and offer a list of apps and services to subscribe to the feed in.
This site has used a modified version of Matt Webb's Pretty Feed for a while now. This styles the feed to be easily readable in a browser, much better for those new to RSS. It also adds a header which links to his page "About Feeds" explaining what a feed is and how to get and use a newsreader app.
About Feeds suggests a few newsreaders (such as Feedly, Inoreader & NetNewsWire) but I have updated the header to be a little more descriptive:

RSS is especially good at moving data around; it's simple, mature, and extensible. As Manton says, "I don’t think we’ve made much progress on this in 20 years."
It's time for that to change.
