I'm exhausted!

Today was my appointment at the "Memory Assessment Service". 1 After the recent MRI (showing some precuneal atrophy) and my memory/behavioural issues, it was considered prudent to rule out early onset dementia once and for all. My wife and I were pretty sure I didn't have it but better safe than sorry.

I had to fill out a questionnaire beforehand and then, during the appointment, complete a questionnaire to test my memory and cognitive ability. I scored 98 out of 100 so have been given the all clear. The only bit I messed up on was remembering a made up name and address because I completely lost focus.

The neuropsychologist concluded that my memory issues are most likely due to stress, anxiety, the depression, and my ADHD tendancies. It's definitely a huge relief to know that I'm not losing my mind.

While the questionnaire wasn't particularly hard (although a minute to say as many words as possible starting with the letter P was surprisingly tough) I think I expended so much nervous energy that, once the adrenaline wore off, my body just crashed.

I'm still waiting for the CBT/Talking Therapy to start and for news on my autism/ADHD referral. The CBT should begin next month but I know the waiting time for the referral is long.

I'm due back at work in two weeks (on a phased return basis) so it would be good to have some news before then.

  1. the neuropsychologist I saw would prefer if it was called the Dementia Assessment Service to avoid unnecessary referrals
