Happy Friday!

As Julian writes "it's Friday, and if that's not something to be thankful for then I don't know what is. Or you could just be thankful. Period."

The quote he added to that post talks about returning to "the slow circles of nature" – quite apt as I was already going to mention nature this morning in the context of life and death.

My daughter pointed out that (likely) one of the magpies that visits our garden was dead in the car park behind our house, probably hit by a car. In contrast, I saw one of the great tits at the nesting box so wonder if some chicks are on the agenda.

I was originally going to write that some might feel nature is cruel but that nature just abides, does its thing regardless. And then I changed my mind in this context. Yes, nature abides but being hit by a car isn't natural. And I'm not even going to get into things like climate change here.

Nature abides, or tries to, yet has to deal with the disruptions and consequences of our actions. We operate beyond and outside of nature, the full impact of even our smallest action cannot be known.

We should be mindful of this.
