Sleep has been fitful for the past couple of nights and, on a couple of occasions, my wife has had to soothe me because I've been jumping and talking in my sleep whilst dreaming.

As ever, I don't remember the dreams.

I don't know why the past couple of nights should have been like this. Maybe its because my mind has been full to bursting, processing everything I've been doing over the past couple of days. Maybe it's the ongoing stresses of a Covid world finally making themselves felt.

Patrick posted a supposition that:

"Those who were either extroverted or introverted before pandemic restrictions have become even more so since."

Indeed, I expressed that:

"...working from home, being isolated from most outside of our family, has almost been an introvert's paradise."

Not having to deal with people face to face is always a blessing but lockdown still stabs at the soul. Being an introvert doesn't mean that being stuck inside is a perfect scenario, I still want to get out into the fresh air and open countryside. One of the reasons we moved was to be near the beauty of nature and not being able to be amongst it is incredibly stifling.

I've reached the point where I can't think of anything that I desperately want/need to add to the blog. The webmention endpoint was the last real tent-pole feature missing. Yes, there will be tweaks and bug fixes but I'm drawing a blank on major additions.

That's a good position to be in. I've been using the creation of the site as a mental crutch, as a way to feel busy and productive, but I can now concentrate on more important things.

Really interesting blog system, Colin! What made you decide to go with a PHP/database system as opposed to a static site generator like Jekyll et al.?

@colinwalker - I left a comment on your blog about your very interesting system. When switching from Wordpress had you looked at going with a static site, and if so what made you decide against it? Your blog design and functionality look great, looking forward to reading more!

@peterimoore Thanks, I saw. I've set it up so that I get email notifications for comments. I'll reply in a bit.

Having been on WordPress for 12 years the PHP/database thing is what I know best. I had customised things very heavily and created by own layer on top of WP to change the way it worked - as far as possible everything was done inline in the browser with all changes instant and no need to go to an admin UI. It was a natural progression to take this layer and make it a standalone system.

@colinwalker just saw your reply, thanks! I don't have the knowledge to run a system like that, but it's really interesting how you've put everything together. I'm looking to follow the Indieweb philosophy myself and control as much as possible within my abilities.

@peterimoore Well, as far as the indieweb is concerned, by being on micro.blog you're already involved 😊

@colinwalker - very true! 😊 I'm hoping to own and control as much of my data as possible, not just being on here but through a “self-hosted” blog, either here or something static on GitHub Pages or Vercel/Netlify. I could manage something on a VPS but I'm not sure I want to.

One thing I forgot to do was update the /colophon page to reflect the latest additions. Fixed.

Something I quickly added last night was an indication of when a post has comments. The comment icon on every post acts as the toggle to show/submit comments but this was generic. So, I've now added a check and if a post has comments it will have a filled icon: Has comments

Just a small change but a nice one.
