A couple of years ago, I switched from using Bigfoot to Littlefoot for handling markdown footnotes as the former hadn't been updated in ages and I wanted to remove any use of jQuery. 1
Littlefoot was fine at first but has been janky on mobile — popups appearing in the wrong place and styling getting completely messed up.
I've decided to scrap it and have gone back to the standard display of footnotes 2 with a little bit of styling.
Okay, so it's not flash, but it works. Reliability is far more important than something (sometimes) looking good.
