In recognition of International Women's Day I wanted to list the blogs I have in my RSS reader by female authors. I've stripped back my subscriptions recently but was still surprised that the number was so small:

A Working Library

All that's past is prologue

Althouse

Annie Mueller

Hypertext Monster

Living in this moment

Lucy Bellwood

maya.land

The Spectacled Bean

My process for finding and following blogs is very organic: if I stumble across something and like it I'll follow it. I don't go out of my way to find any particular types of content.

This appallingly short list, however, shows the lack of diversity in my day-to-day reading.

Any additional recommendations for female authored blogs would be greatly received.

@colinwalker That's a great idea Colin and thanks for sharing these blogs. I just went through my list of feeds and found these blogs by female authors I like:

Despite the fact that this isn't an exhaustive list (not all places have RSS feeds), it's nevertheless unfortunately a very small list.

Thanks Jatan. I've come across Ru Singh before but the rest are new to me.

@colinwalker @uncertainquark thanks for sharing! In looking through my blogroll I notice a lot more newsletters written by women than blogs. Here are some other blogs by women I enjoy:

Topic focused blogs:

  • The Aesthetics of Joy (Ingrid Fetell Lee) – finding happiness through improving your personal spaces
  • McMansion Hell (Kate Wagner) – (hilarious) architectural critiques
  • homeculture (Meg Conley) – cultural / political commentary centered on impacts to women
  • Going Medieval (Dr. Eleanor Janega) – medieval history and commentary, correcting common misunderstandings
  • Jami Gold – fiction writing / storytelling

Thanks Tracy. I follow Rebecca but she's sadly not posted for a while. I'll be sure to check out the others that I don't know.

@tracydurnell Thanks Tracy. McMansion Hell looks really intriguing.

I want to instigate some major changes to the blog and have a few ideas about how that could happen. I have been forced to question how and what I do here. Forced may seem a strong word is the context (more on that tomorrow) but I genuinely believe it's the right one; it was one of those real lightbulb moments.

i'm curious and excited as to where this could go.
