I didn't get to sleep properly until about 4am so, in time honoured tradition, I mailed about it in the Journal, made some edits to code and CSS, and put the cricket on (the Ashes first test) — it looks like I missed the best bits from England's perspective.

As expected, the PCR test came back negative which is a huge relief. It's not just that I don't have it myself but that I can't pass it on to the rest of the family.

So sad to hear that Mike Nesmith has passed.

I used to love watching The Monkees growing up — reruns in the 70's and 80's of course, I'm not old enough to have seen them first time round. The slapstick humour just triggered something and the music was always better than it was given credit for. They may have started out as a manufactured band for the TV show but it was obvious they were talented, ultimately taking over their own musical direction.

Each time I hear that another one of the band has died it's like another little piece of my childhood disappearing. I guess I'm around that age, it happens all too frequently that someone I used to watch or listen to as a kid leaves us. I suppose we keep pictures of stars in our minds as they were at the peak of their fame, still think of them in that way, and are unprepared for when time catches up.
