Dave's right:
"I want small-scale friend-nets, that aren't connected to anything else. Just my best buds. I don't give a shit if anyone else reads it, or doesn't. I want quality."
Social doesn't scale well. It's time we learnt that.
A new network seems great at the start. It probably is. For a while. But that's only because it's a niche product with a limited set of users intent on exploring, trailblazing, navel gazing.
Once a network becomes the next big thing it inherits the problems of the previous big thing. It's not a technology problem but a human one – moving from place to place, network to network.
Keep it small, keep it contained, keep it controlled.
This is the way.
