When updating the Journal I use AJAX to avoid reloading the page, no real reason other than I thought it was a nice idea. I wanted to do the same thing with the blog page when updating posts but had an issue getting it to work when there were multiple posts in a day.
I may go back to it with fresh eyes tomorrow but it is a 'nice to have' rather than an essential feature so I'm not that bothered if I can't get it to work.
