A couple of CSS tweaks aside (ostensibly to fix things I had somehow broken) I haven't done or added anything to the blog for a while. I think it has reached the stage where I'm actually happy with it and what it does. A rare moment indeed for this perennial tweaker and busybody.

That, and a post from Jan-Lukas on why he doesn't care if people visit his blog, got me thinking.

I have always maintained that the blog is for me and that extends to the design as well as the content. I have created something that I enjoy using (and that started with the custom layer on WordPress) rather than to appease or delight visitors. It doesn't matter if people read this via the RSS feeds or directly, or even if anyone reads it at all, but it is always nice when someone takes the time to stop by and leave a local comment.

Saying that, if someone has taken that time out of their day then I want their experience to be a good one.

I was pleased with this morning's writing session. While I may not have gotten down quite so many words in one place I did go back and expand upon a one-liner that I wasn't really happy with and, to be honest, had forgotten about. In doing so I had a flash of inspiration about where some notes that seemed disconnected actually belonged.

Practice, Day 6

@colinwalker First time I've seen audio embedded directly on my microblog feed (I'm on iPad iOS app). How?

@w4rner It's just using the <audio> tag on my blog. It's retained in RSS and MB displays it.

@colinwalker as in standard html tag, as opposed to a {{ hugo code }}? Where do you actually get the src for the audio, like from cloud sharing link or something? Also - style question - Is it better to use the left-tag, right-tag rather than < and > ?

@colinwalker Grrr - brackets!

@w4rner Yep, just standard html5 <audio> tag. The src url is an upload to my blog (home brew PHP/MySQL system). I've got both start and end tags surrounding a fallback link in case the tag isn't supported.

@colinwalker Any chance you'd be willing to share the precise code with me? (feel free to “warner me”, replace a with at sign, and space with dot for email) | I think I'm following the HTML 5 pattern .I've tried publishing so many different variants at w4rner-test.micro.blog that sites actually been taken offline! Is that a thing @manton ?) | Here's a screenshot of my approach: screenshot | Thanks for helping a n00b!
