# 3:20 am and I can't sleep after a "whooping" episode. I know the cough can last for months but I had hoped that these episodes would have tailed off by now.

Before being diagnosed I thought the coughing had triggered a return of my childhood asthma; the feeling of being unable to breathe is pretty similar - at least from what I remember.

It just never occurred to me that it could be anything else and I was prescribed inhalers on the basis of it. Needless to say that they don't have any impact.

The "whooping" mainly happens at night, it's a textbook case, and the broken sleep amplifies everything. The physical tiredness from this combined with the impact of the coughing itself is so draining but the sheer frustration of not being able to talk is still the worst part.
