# Liked: We need to talk about twitter | words from Cole Henley, @cole007...

”Disgust has become the oxygen of commerce.”

Such a powerful line!

Social thrives on the emotive and the reactionary. Disgust, anger, fear, hate. We fall into the traps we create for ourselves: outrage at a story and even more so at the reaction of others when it doesn’t match our own.

But, as Cole states, it’s good for business so platforms are loathe to truly do anything about it beyond paying lip service to protecting the downtrodden.

So we have options: either we start responding in a more positive manner, examine and understand rather than scream and berate, or we remove ourselves from these environments.

The latter is easier and less exhausting.

It is then beholden on us to be responsible with whatever alternatives we decide to pursue.

# This was the last train ticket I bought for work before going off sick. On Monday I was signed off for another month (hopefully the last) and this really puts it into perspective.
