Daniel Goldsmith wrote an excellent counterpoint to Sebastian Greger's post on GDPR and the indieweb. As a practicing lawyer who has undertaken training and work in this field the response is well worth checking out.

Sebastian wrote his original piece in the context of the very strict laws imposed by Germany which, as a state, is a privacy hardliner and outlier even compared to other EU countries.

As I mentioned at the time, aside from the legal arguments over what you can or can't do, we should pay attention to ethical concerns around personal data even if not covered by its remit; a case of acting in accordance with the spirit rather than the letter of the law.
