# Liked: RSS Still has a Place – BirchTree...
”RSS is really the only way to know that I’m catching everything from the sites that I’m subscribed. Yes, it turns my news app into another app with an unread count, but the sites that I subscribe to are my favorite websites, and therefore are things I’m happy to see pile up.”
We tend to over-subscribe on social networks, follow people based on a brief interaction or a couple of updates.
The important and truly interesting can get lost amongst the noise as the gently babbling brook quickly becomes a raging torrent.
Subscribing to a site via RSS is more deliberate and a lot more focused.
It absolutely still has a place and always did.
@colinwalker I'm so happy RSS is coming back. Makes me feel less like a lonely dinosaur. I can't think of a better way to follow authors I don't actually want to miss.
@jamesshelley Heh, it never went away ?
@jamesshelley "I can't think of a better way to follow authors I don't actually want to miss." And to avoid the ones you do want to miss, which is becoming increasingly difficult on the usual social networks.
@jamesshelley @colinwalker It never really went away. Everyone was looking for the next big thing (JSON?), but us stuck in the Stone Age were still enjoying it.
