So, what exactly is my beef with social networks? Why have I abandoned them and what would it take for me to return to somewhere like Twitter having been such a heavy user for so long?

The silos have their data firmly locked down under Ts & Cs that it is almost tantamount to breaking the law to try and extract any.
This is no good for anyone except the silos and their bottom lines.
Further to my "utterances" about social, and Twitter in particular, it looks as though Twitter now has, or is rolling out, the ability to follow searches with "top tweets" about the topic or hashtag appearing in your timeline. I can't find any official announcement about this feature; is it new or currently in testing? Regardless, it's about time!
