Like Am I on the IndieWeb Yet? | Miriam Eric Suzanne...

I'm an experienced web developer, and I can figure it out. But the steps aren't simple, and most of my friends are not web developers. So, to me, this all feels like the prototype of an idea – a proof of concept.

...

What I would like to see is a tool that helps bring the entire system together in one place.

It's a shame that we're still talking about this in these terms. Yes, there are more implementations out there and libraries you can use in your own code but it's still too hard for most people.

But it's not just a code & complexity issue. For the IndieWeb to grow people need to be convinced of the benefits of running their own site and owning their own data – an almost herculean task when faced with the size, simplicity and convenience of the centralised social platforms.

The world and web have moved on.

@colinwalker I think the indieweb should offer a wide range of solutions. The current range of libraries and plugins makes it possible for hardcore technicians to join the Indieweb, but there are also tools like micro.blog which are accessible for anybody.

Currently, there's no way in /reader to go back and mark a post as unread again – once it's read I have to jump into the database and edit the post entry.

In my planning notes I wrote: "option to show all (incl unread) on single feed" but never got round to implementing it. I think it might be time to do so.

When visiting an individual feed I could have an option that changes the query so that all items from that feed are visible then, for those items that are already marked as read, replace the 'mark as read' icon with 'mark as unread'.

I suppose that's the joy of building your own tools: you're never done, there's always something else to add/tweak/fix.
