# I've been thinking about spinning up a dev install of WordPress on a sub domain for a while so that I don't have to make changes on (and potentially breaking) the live site. I've always put it off as a chore but today could be the day.
@colinwalker I've done this a couple of times and locally. I find, as a occasional dabbler, that I do a bit on these test sites then forget about them. When I go back I am confused as to what I was doing:-)
@colinwalker I think you will be much more on the ball! The webmentions is a great reason. I think doing small things then implementing might be the trick.

@colinwalker FWIW Amazon Lightsail made that a 30sec effort when I needed to do it, including snapshotting my live instance as a baseline.
@bensmithuk Cool. I don’t need an exact duplicate, just the theme and some core plugins. Still, it’s amazing what you can do on a phone these days ?
