I'm taking my son-in-law to get his first Covid jab this morning so will see if I can get my second done while I'm there. I was a day out on Friday so they might let me get it without an appointment today.

It will be good to be fully vaccinated, not just for myself but for those around me.

@colinwalker FWIW from what I heard the effectiveness is much higher with more time in between, but of course it would be great to be done with it quicker. We”˜d be happy if we even got enough of anything over here 😊

For full effective there needs to be at least four weeks between the doses so I'm past that now.

@hutaffe @colinwalker my wife told me about an article she read by an epidemiologist, who said our extending the second dose to 4 months was a great idea. She indicated the immune response is much higher with at least 12 weeks between doses.

@pimoore @colinwalker that's why in Germany the time between was set to three months. They shortened it to 4 weeks recently and is widely criticized because the long term effectiveness is much lower that way. But it still works, of course.

@colinwalker Az second jab is extended to 12-16 weeks in Ireland.

@hutaffe @colinwalker Ours was originally 3 weeks per Pfizer and Moderna's original trials, but was subsequently increased to 4 months. Part of that was due to not having enough initial vaccine supply so the idea was to get first doses into more arms, but conveniently this new data came out to support that move from a immunological perspective.

In addition to the great tits we appear to have some coal tits nesting close by. After putting some food down this morning I decided to sit in the garden (no more than 8-10 feet away) and watched who would turn up.

One of the robins made a brief appearance, the great tits swooped down a couple of times, but the coal tits were back and forth over the fence for some time until it started raining.
