I don’t do much in the way of editing graphics but over the past couple of days I’ve been messing about with the latest version of Pixelmator on the Mac.

I had previously been using Gimp (such an unfortunate name) but it has always felt clunky so wanted to try something new.

Discovering a heroine’s journeyComments

While thinking about Pitch Perfect I thought it might be fun to examine it in the context of “The Hero’s Journey” popularised by Joseph Campbell.

The idea is that stories can be linked back to stages in a “monomyth” – a single arc that describes events in just about all tales. Campbell identified 17 distinct stages but it is generally accepted that not all stories will feature all 17 whilst still following the general outline.

Discovering a heroine’s journey

Last night consisted of re-watching two films for the umpteenth time: Pitch Perfect and the original Robocop. You couldn’t get much more diametrically opposed than that.

On leaving

After a quick back and forth with Doug Lane I decided to reintroduce micro.blog users to the /directory but they are only shown after specifically clicking the link at the bottom of the page. That way they are not adding bulk but are there should anyone want them to aid user discovery over on micro.blog.

Well, I’ve learnt something this morning.

While looking through the menus for the micro.blog app I saw “Emoji & Symbols ^⌘Space” and never realised that this shortcut was system wide as I tend to use the keyboard rather than menus.

I’m not entirely sure why but I completely separated the newer blog content from the archive to even the search level.

If searching when on a newer page you only get results since the post-archive date. Search from within the archive, however, and you’ll get results from anywhere.
